GENERAL INFORMATION/GUIDELINES

v  Please bundle clothing according to sex and size.  Tie the hangers in each size and sex grouping together.  For example all girls’ 2T clothes together and hangers tied together in one bundle.  This will help on the day of setup.

v  Please ensure that items you plan to sell are not subject to manufacturers' recalls.  For assistance, please visit the website of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission at http://www.cpsc.gov/cgi-bin/prod.aspx or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at http://www.nhtsa.com or call the Department of Transportation (800 424-9393).  Feel free to contact us if you have recall-related questions.

v  This sale is for fall and winter items ONLY.  Other clothing items that are included are special seasonal outfits (Halloween, Winter Holidays).  Out of season items will be removed from the racks and returned to the seller.

v  If the clothing is badly stained or in very poor condition (torn/not fixable), please DO NOT include them.  If these items are found, they will be removed from the selling floor.

v  Everyone who has clothing racks from the previous sales needs to bring them to the church on Wednesday, August 26 from 5pm to 9pm.

v  Merchandise drop off will begin at 4:00pm on Thursday, August 27.  All merchandise must be dropped off NO LATER than 5pm.  If needed, people can drop off items on Wednesday, August 26 from 5pm to 9pm.

v  When dropping your merchandise off, you MUST check in at the door to have your name logged in.

v  You will then be directed to where to bring your items.  NO shopping will be done at this time and NO pulling items to buy later.  Sellers must wait until 5:30pm to begin shopping.

v  There will be a rack for matching or coordinating specialty items.  This is for Holiday wear or for fancy dress items.  If you wish these items to be sold as a pair, please tie the hangers together. The price will be the price of BOTH items together. The tie will be removed at the end of the sale on Thursday night and placed in the appropriate section. This is for our members who like/desire to have matching or coordinating outfits at special times.

v  The sale will end at Noon on Saturday and we will begin separating piles back out to sellers at that time.

v  Thank you for your interest in the GMOM clothing and exchange sale.  If you have any questions or concerns about the policies listed, please feel free to contact Katie McGuffin (Tigger1KT@aol.com), Melissa Spivey (mdspivey@mindspring.com) or any GMOM officer.

PREPARING ITEMS FOR SALE

Please use common sense and good taste when preparing your items for the sale.  Below is a list of basic suggestions to keep in mind when preparing your items for the sale.  Please remember that people generally buy what attracts their eye first. Things that are neat, clean, etc will sell better and faster than those things that are wrinkled and messy.

Please ensure that items you plan to sell are not subject to manufacturers' recalls. Feel free to contact us if you have recall-related questions.

v  Clothing—all clothing should be clean and freshly laundered where appropriate.  No stained, torn or very worn items will be accepted – they will be removed.  NO OUT OF SEASON MERCHANDISE.  Hang all items on plastic hangers of the appropriate size.

v  Toys—all items should be thoroughly cleaned.  Place all loose pieces in bags and tape to the largest item.  Must be in working order.

v  Books & videos—Group books by age (board books, picture, early reader etc) when possible and place in Ziploc bag.  Videos/DVDs should be in original case if possible and clearly labeled.  NO COPIES OF TAPES WILL BE ALLOWED.  This is a violation of copyright law.  Puzzles and games must include all pieces with boxes taped shut or wrapped with string to prevent opening.

v  Shoes & Socks—No holes, tears, dirt or gum.  Group socks by gender and size in bags of 3+ items when possible.  Shoes must be clean with treads intact.  Tie shoelaces together.  Place shoes in Ziploc bag or shoebox.

v  Infant Items—All items should be taken apart (if needed) and DISINFECTED.  Group like items by age and type and place in Ziploc bags.  Pay special attention when cleaning potty chairs and diaper pails—items that smell or not thoroughly cleaned will NOT be accepted.

v  Big Ticket Items—Items that are not clean will not be accepted.  Clean and disinfect all parts of the item thoroughly.  Attach all small items to the item with a twist tie.  If the item is disassembled, place a photo of the item on it.  Attach ALL instructions to the item when possible.  Car seats must not be over 5 years old and MUST include a manufacturers date on the seat.

Pricing Items

v Because we would like uniformity in our pricing, the following guidelines have been established to help you price your items.

v These are only guidelines and you are asked to use your best judgment when pricing.  One thing to keep in mind is: items priced too high do not sell.

v Price your items to sell quickly—especially 12 months and under clothing.

v Good rule of thumb: 1/3 of the new price if item is in good condition and ¼ of the new price if the item is in fair condition.  (This applies specifically to clothing)

v Evaluate your prices:  Would you pay that price for that particular item.

v Items must be marked in $0.50 increments.
